A precision-fitted TMJ orthotic that repositions the jaw to relieve joint and muscle strain from clenching and grinding.

A custom-fitted TMJ splint is a removable appliance custom-fabricated to fit over your teeth and help reduce stress on the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and surrounding muscles. Unlike over-the-counter night guards, this splint is designed from impressions or a scan of your teeth and jaw after evaluation of imaging. The fit needs to be precise and will require additional appointments to adjust and relieve pressure on your TMJs and craniofacial muscles. The goal is to guide your jaw into a more relaxed, stable position and prevent clenching or grinding from overloading the joint and muscles. The appliance can help with: • Jaw pain or soreness • Headaches related to clenching or grinding • Clicking, popping, or locking of the jaw • Muscle tension in the face, neck, or temples • Tooth wear from grinding How it works: • It creates a protective barrier between the upper and lower teeth • It helps relax the jaw muscles by changing how your teeth come together • It can reduce pressure inside the TMJ and allow inflammation to settle • It encourages the jaw to rest in a more balanced position Patients typically wear the splint at night and sometimes during the day depending on the provider's recommendations. It may take a short adjustment period as the muscles and joints adapt. Don't worry — we are with you every step of the way, with routine follow-ups and adjustments to the orthotic device.
